Tire question, yes another

Tire question, yes another
I was driving in the rain the other day and realized how easy the stock 235/50/18 BF Goodrich KDWS tires spun. I want to keep the stock rims that are 8.5 inches wide so that limits the tire size in the back. I’m looking at GoodYear Eagle F1 GS/D3 255/45/18 just for the back. The traction for this tire is ranked number three on Tire rack. My question is would replacing the stock tire with the F1 that’s only ¾” bigger make that much of a difference to justify the cost?
Thanks

The wider tire will increase the traction factor dry
but in the wet, wider tires are a drawback for traction.
More surface area equals less PSI surface pressure
and decreased wet traction.

3 inches total is quite a bit of tread especially in the rain. I run the stock 18" BFG's and haven't had this problem. Our road surfaces out here may be quite rougher than those in the city or where you are. That helps me I'm sure.

I replaced my KDWS's with the F1 all seasons (wider, too... see my sig). BIG difference in wet weather for the leadfooted driver. Otherwise, the KDWS's were fine as long as I behaved.

I have 255/45/18 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires. They are good in dry, warm weather, but they do break traction easily in colder, wetter weather. Next time I will be getting 275/45/18 all around.....for looks mainly.

The GS D3's will blow away the BFG's in all catagories especially wet traction, besides Cold and Snow.
I think the F1 all season will have a little wider footprint than the GS D3's in the same size.
My Supercars actually held pretty darn good the other day in the cold slush.
Dont go 275/45/18 on the stock wheels.

I'm no tire professional, but I don't see why 275/45/18 would be bad on the 8.5" rim. I can understand not going with a wider tire with a shorter sidewall because the sidewall will have a sharper bulge, but the 275/45 has a taller sidewall than stock, so the sidewall bulge should not be much different from my 255/45's.
