Default Front "thunk" -- clarification & help, please

Car: 06 GT convertible, auto trans, 14k miles, original owner
Issue: Single "thunk" from front end. Only happens when going forward after a complete stop.

I've just read through the 99-page "front suspension thunk" thread, but I think my problem is different. It's NOT a repeating "thunk, thunk, thunk" when driving over bumps. It's just a single "thunk" that happens after I come to a full stop, then proceed ahead. It sounds like a knuckle striking a heavy coffee table. Not sure how long it's been happening, but I only noticed it about a week ago.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks in advance.

Manual trans?

If so you are probably hearing the great 2 piece drive shaft we have.

I have an 07 GT w/auto and hear the same thing! It has happend 3 times in 3 months. So far it has only happens after parking for awhile, then occures within 5 feet of starting out. It is a single thump. Sounds and feels like you ran into something (baby, dog, etc). Makes my heart stop everytime.

I wonder if it is a brake caliper sticking? Does it do it when backing up too?

Is that what the thunk is? I get a single thump after I start the car most of the time. Just figured it was one of those things as it's never affected performance or ride......

Yup, that's what that is... Happens when you downshift and start out most of the time. Also sometimes when you select the wrong gear and jerk you will hear the thunk thunk thunk before it gets moving again.
