Default Thinking about these tires...

I'm going to a staggered setup and having 18x10s in the rear. I am set on 285's and can't decide between 285/60's or 285/40's...I think the 60's would look AMAZING in the rear and I wouldn't even have to lower the car to help with the 4x4 look[8D]Think the 285/60 would fit? Gah it'd look sooo good and hook like crazy(tire is BFGoodrich T/A KDW NT)

Hi, the 285/60 will definately fill the wheel well. You'd be adding 4 inches to the stock height. [8D]

Here's a handy tire size calulator:

Kind of worried about it though because I don't want to jack the rear up too high and lose performance...Think the tire will help at the track? Since i'm going to a bigger tire I could put in 4.10s and get crazy performance

A 285/60/18 tire is over 31" tall! That will absolutely kill your gear ratio, unless you're going with 4.56's - for real. I have 295/45/18's on an 18x10 in the back, and 4.10 gears. Because of the additional tire height over stock, those 4.10's are now basically 3.90's. Something to thinnk about...

I was tihnking about going 275/60/17's myself... until I realized that with a 3.55 gear, my effective ratio would end up somewhere around a 2.90-ish. To end up getting near a 4.10 with a 29" tall tire, you would need somewhere around a 4.56..

285/60 would be way tootall and 285/40doesn't fill the wheel well up enough, unless you lowerthecar. If you wantthe "big meats"on back, I'd alsosuggest 295/45/18. You end up with a 28.2" height- which is about an inch taller than stock (if you had 17s).
I haveNitto 555s 295/45/18 on an 18x10" rim on the rear only (need to update my sig pic) and it looksmean!!If you do gears, definitely go 4.10, because I have 3.73s, and with these new tires,I'm back to stock at 3.31:1.

I also have 295/45/18 on a 10" wheel and I think it's the perfect tire size. It's not so large that it really negatively affects performance, but it definitely looks meaty.

I noticed a slight performance drop when I switched to 295x45x18's.

All I can say is please don't put 60's on there...

You might as well raise the car and throw on 24's if you do that...
