Default Power Steering Fluid

The manual for my 2007 Mustang says to use Mercon. I already have a bottle of Valvoline Mercon V. Does anybody know if it is OK to use Mercon V instead of Mercon for the Power Steering ?

Ron, I think it is ok, but I would post in the tech section. Also call a dealer and speak to a shop foreman.

Mercon V is fine, it's the new fluid spec'd to replace older Mercon. In fact, the newer car manuals all spec Mercon V for power steering. I know this is an old post, but others may need to know.

+1 Mercon is Mercon regardless. It's just like an update in computer software, the same essentials that make Mercon are there whether its Mercon or Mercon V.
