Here is a quick question.

I have read (and agreed for the most part) with the opinion that you can "badge" your car down but not up. In other words, you can put a tribar pony on a GT, but not a GT on a V6, or a "powered by ford" badge on a GT500, but not a cobra on a Shelby Gt.

today I was read an article on the shelby line of cars. When it comes to Ford, the name shelby has always been associated with the famous cobra badge. Shelby's own production cars have all had some form of Cobra enblem on them. Why is, or why should the SHELBY Gt be excluded? I dont own one, nor do I have plans to buy one, but it seems that Ford and Shelby are the ones incorrectly badging these cars. If it has the name shelby on the back it SHOULD have a snake on it, your comments ?

 

shelby didn't think the GT looked good with the cobras considering it's soft-edged sexy charachter. I think powerd by ford looks better.

 

Perhaps they themselves even felt that since the Shelby GT is just a dressed up GT, it didn't deserve the 'Cobra' name.

I suppose 'Shelby GT' simply means Shelby's take on the GT, which is exactly what the car is.

Too bad there is no GT350 though.

There were snakes on the Mustang II "Cobra's". I think they had 130-135 hp. If you can have a snake on a Pinto... I mean Mustang II, why can't you put a snake on a new GT.

Is there a horsepower requirement to wear a snake, or does Mr. Shelby himself have to sign off on it? Where do you get an application?

If someone has a 600 hp forged 5.0 stroker with a Kenne Bell blower can he apply to wear a snake, or is he forever doomed to display his lowly GT emblem.

It's a plastic emblem that's held on by tape.

if i paid what most dealers charged for a shelby gt id put whatever badge made me happy. most people wouldnt even know the difference and its your car so do whatever makes you happy, to an exent. just be prepared to deal with whatever some people throw at you.

to an extent though. this weekend i saw a fellow v6er with not one, not two, not three, but four GT badges on his car. people like that ruin it for the rest of us.

snake = cobra....not all Shelby's are considered cobras....only those that carry the elusive name get snakes
