MPG on my 06, really???

RE: MPG on my 06, really???
These OHC engines are pretty efficient. A lot less internal friction than a push rod engine. I was able to consistently get 33 mpg when I had the 3.55 gears cruising at 100 kph (62 mph) Don't know what it is since I got the 4.10's in. It's lower but it's still better than any comparable pushrod motor I've owned.

Oh yeah mine was hand calculated as well. I thought it was damn impressive till I read a couple people saying they get better.
Perhaps if I slowed down it would improve more but I don't really want to test that theory.

RE: MPG on my 06, really???
I've filled up 5 times since I got my 08 GT about 4 weeks ago... I've had between 20.9 and 22.8 on every tank. Each tank has been about 70% highway and maybe 30% city (or slow traffic on highway) with one or two full throttle runs on each tank. I'm pretty happy with that considering I traded in a V6 truck that go about 17mpg on the highway.

RE: MPG on my 06, really???
I managed to get 25 mpg for my whole trip up to Santa Barbara and back recently. It's still comparably low as heck with $4 gas everywhere, but it's a change for me.
Here's how:
Stay out of the fast lane!
Here they want to go 72-80 in the fast lane, so I just use it to pass while keeping the cruise control on 65-67. It's so funny to see the Priuses fly by! They paid all that extra money for a hybrid and are getting the same mpg as a non-hybrid! Imagine what kind of mileage they could get if they went the legal limit?
I'm all for Ford's new V-6 turbo with direct injection. The days of mass produced V-8's are ending. Will it ever be a Mustang option?
I got outstanding mileage while on some of the country roads, which I bet lots of those getting great mpg are driving on. With the GT on cruise at 55 mph, I could see 28+mpg, no problem. But remember, it also depends on how deep you bury the throttle when you need to start or pass!
But the good news is that by taking it easy I get better mpg, I can't get a speeding ticket, and if the urge to put the power down comes up I won't blow my MPG with a quick 0-60 run.

I have noticed as well when I stay under 65 my stang gets excellent mileage as well. I recently went on a trip and kept it under 65 the whole way and averaged 29 mpg. On the way back I was in a hurry and ran over 80 the whole way and if I remember correctly got about 24 mpg. So it definitely does matter on the speed. Even at 24mpg I was pretty happy.
