Default Good Street Tires

As withall S197 GT manualsI guess you all already know I have major traction issues with the bone stock car on stock tires. 1st = almost total burnout with t/c off while slipping the clutch, 2nd = mini burnout, car goes sideways with t/c off, 3rd = chirp with a little sideways action with t/c off. My dilemma is that the car is a daily driver so DRs are going to be expensive to replace every 4000 miles, so what is a good, wide (275 - 305) tire that will hold up on a daily driver with 17" rims while getting decent mileage? Any info is greatly appreciated, I was gonna go with the BFG KDWs.

Using Yokohama S.drive's ... and they are ALOT more responsive than my stock BFGoodrich's were.

Rear: 275's

I have the stock Pirelli PZero Nero tires, but how's your traction on a semi-agressive launch? I would assume the 275 width helps, but I've heard that's too small for these cars - maybe just a rumor but that's why I'm asking. Those tires look sweet - and nice freakin car.

295s look GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD. I'm going to that with an 18" wheel (295/45)

It pretty much grips up easily ... never really had any issues. The main selling factor for me on these tires was the fact that my Mustang is a DD, and I needed a tire that would last as well.

I've haven't heard anything about 275's being too small -- personally I think they match right up to the fender w/out any kind of back spacing needed. I know some have bigger, and in some cases it looks really good ... but I'm pretty satisfied w/ the way mine looks.

Thanks for the compliment ...

Are you keeping the stock 17" rims or planning on buying different rims? The reason I ask is because you can only put so wide of a tire on the factory 8" wide rims. I have heard that 255's work good and are safe but I know some put 275's on the factory wheels and haven't had problems.

I recently installed TOYO Proxes IV's and it made a huge difference in traction issues.

KDW2's all the way...expensive, but definitely grip very very well...my fiance has them on her GTO which makes around 350rwtq and we have no issues, the tires will bark, but no traction is lost...

BFG KDW2's or Nitto 555's are pretty much the best street tires for dry/wet grip.
