Default 20's or 18's

I'm looking for advice on the size of wheels to throw on an 07 GT convertible. How muchdoes the ride quality suffer vs the coolness of 20's? I'm really leaning towards 18's but damn the 20's look so good.

If you go with 20's do you need to beef up the suspension or can you still leave stock suspension alone?

I'm new to the stang universe, coming from jeeps and offroad vehicles so Iknow aboutBIG tires, not these little performance things...

Thanks for the help!

You'll get lots of opinions on this question. I just put 18's on my 05 vert and I like 'em. I do think20's look good, but just like in the 4x4 world, adding unsprung weight comes at a price. (I sold my 97 TJ with a RE long arm lift running on 36's to fund my Mustang, so I know about the offroad world too.)

Mine is lowered with the Eibach Pro kit and it sits very level because of the extra weight the vert carries in the rear. I have the same amount of space in the wheel wells front & rear with 255/45x18's. I'll probably go with a wider rear tire next time around, though. Your stock suspension should handle 20's just fine, but you'll feel the difference in ride quality.

In the end it all comes down to preference and the look you want. The roads around me suck, so ride quality was a big part of my decision.

Good luck!
Mike

That's so weird you also had ajeep - I traded in my 98 TJ with a 4" lift(also a Rubicon Express, go figure) running 35's for the stang. My jeep had it all (skid plates, ox locker, sound system, ahh I must be nuts)now I'mstarting over from scratch LOL

Thanks for the response, and your car looks freakin awesome!

I sure love the amazing fuel efficieny of my GT compared to my jeep

yeah, metoo. I had a custom length Dana 44 in the front & a Ford 8.8 in the rear with ARBs &4.88'sand a York compressor running it all. Full cage, skids, tricked out hi-steer setup...the list goes on. I just didn't have time to wheel it and it wasn't a great driver around town. I sure do appreciate being able to push a button and drop the top too.No more 1/2 hour top raising and cussing adventures.

Here's an old pic of the TJ - I miss her sometimes:

go with 20's staggered. 255/35/20 in front 295/30-35/20 in the rear

I think 20s are perfect for these cars but 18s don't look too bad either.

Tough one I went with 20's love the look on my vert. I went with the Eibach pro kit for verts and the Tockico D-specs and they were set to the softest, the suspension feels awsome but you do need to be carefull with big pot holes. I have 245x35x20 front and 285x30x20 rears. good luck what ever choice you make just make sure you are happy with your choice.
