Default Looking for turbo advice...

I'm hoping to be able to get some sort of FI next spring and have been looking around at various turbo kits and have narrowed it down to two kits. Hellion and HP Performance. They are similar in ways but they have some differences that will come into play. Although Hellion is more reputable and a majority of the New Edge turbo mustangs run this setup, the kit for 05+ Mustangs have a couple thigs I am worried about.

The major thing is they designed this kit to be able to be installed using the stock K-member but the piping goes under the K-member so having this on a lowered car would cause big time ground clearance problems. The HP kit keeps the stock K-mamber also but they were able to keep all of the piping tucked up pretty close to the body and above the K-member alot better.

Here is the parts list for each kit, if anyone could give me an idea of which one would be better to run i'd appreciate it. Also, i'm about 90% sure I will be running a turbo setup, unless I find a real good deal on a supercharger.

One other thing I just noticed is the HP kit comes with a fuel system upgrade and the Hellion doesn't. The HP kit is also cheaper by about 500-700 bucks. I just don't know who uses better components.

If you like the Hellion then get that but fabricate the piping the way you like... it may cost more but you get what you want... thats what I would do anyway

HP is good stuff. Garrett is a better turbo as well.

The hellion kit is just the turbonetics kit according to some other people on the boards here, I think that is true but not sure. Also check out the Granatelli Motorsports kit. They are getting great numbers from their kit.

Before you make up your mind I recommend you talk to Jim Napier at TurboHorsepower.com about his single kit. Jim puts togeather a great kit and as it is custom made he will set it up exactly how you want. His prices are also very good.

That Hahn kit looks OK, but they are using a very cheap turbo and still charging alot of money for the kit. a 15G is a very small turbo, for instance a 16G is a basic upgrade for most 4 cylinder turbo cars, and that is just the bottom of the barrel. Also that kit will probably be maxed out around the 550-600 wheel range. If you ever plan to do a built motor than that kit will be close to useless.

The turbohorsepower kit looks to be a good choice. The single and twin setups look to be good for the money, the components are very good that is for sure. I have seen problem with Turbonetics kits. I have used them on other customers cars at our shop and had problems, I will admit that I haven't used their mustang kit, but I have used their 350Z/G35 kits and there is some problems, the most notable is boost creep is incredibly apparent

If you are serious about spending in the 5500-7000 dollar range you should look at having someone custom build a kit for you. As soon as winter hits here in Michigan my 07 will be going under the knife. If the kit comes out as well as we are hoping that it will then we will be releasing a kit to the general marketplace. I will be starting a thread as soon as we get going on the project so pay attention for that.

Another thing to consider is availability, we got an Hellion from Brent @ brenspeed a got shipped in less than two weeks, their kit is the same hellion one but with some more stuff like GT pumps, spark plugs, etc. Obviously you get a tune from Brent, we have not tested that yet cause we have not installed it but surely comes handy. On the other side, HP is a great product but it can take forever to get the piping from Jet Hot, we bought a 61mm BB TT for a stroked 2000GT (mind blowing performance) and in the end we got the whole thing with a few minor itches but is very good as a whole.

Myself, ordered a kit from HP, 67mm BB, to risky with the pipes under the k-member for me with the Hellion, read that they had improved the process of delivery from Jet Hot, time will tell. We are on week 2 of a 4-5 weeks wait time.
