Default Hypertech programmer ?? newbie to tuners..

I found a K&N air intake and Hypertech tuner used for 300 bucks, whihc is a great deal. Anyone have any thoughts on that tuner? Anyone have it? How is it? I heard that just the K&N intake on the car alone, the car will run lean? Is that true?

It's false the K&N cai does not provide any boost over stock with a drop in filter because it is designed to provide more air without retuning.

I would not buy a Hypertech tuner. If I remember right you can't download custom tunes on them. Anyone correct me if I am wrong. It will work to change the rear end gear ratio if you decide to change your gears and also on tire size but you can also get that with a Diablo or SCT only they will have the capability to make custom tunes to accomidate your add ons.

I use a Diablo tuner but did have my K&N intake on for about a month before getting the diablo. My car didn't seem to run lean. I didn't notice any difference between the K&N and the factory intake.

Get a tuner that your tune creator can support.
Most support Diablo or SCT.
Or be stuck with whatever tune is currently in it.
Is it unlocked and guaranteed to be unlocked?
I have never heard of a tune creator that used
theHyperTech platform.

Hypertech is junk. When I had my 98 Transam it only gave me 3rwhp and 5 ft/lb of torque. Get either a Diablo or an SCT tuner.

Stick with what works for the tuners and will support your future mods.

Diablo and SCT.

abrush, so with just the K&N you never noticed anything, what about when you did the tune on top of it? Did you have to get a cuztomized tune, or was K&N one of the selections...i don't really know hows these work but i'm doing my best to learn.

Also, say if i get a SCT or diablo tuner, i don't change anything like my revs, timing, rev limter etc, none of that as i don't want to have engine trouble.Lets say i just add the 87 tune, what exactly does the 87 tune do, just throw in more gas or what, how does it give your more HP? Any how much could i expect with the 87 tune combined with the K&N, the K&N gives 15 apparently...thanks everyone, Jord

Also i won't be doing any more mods after this so i wont need cuztomed tunes, i can't afford it, i'm only 20 and i'm on my way to school this fall.

And the reason i'm considering this tuner is because it used and a good deal, i can't afford to buy new, but if i can find a diable or SCT tuner for 200 bucks or under that has the K&N tuning option on it i would really considcer, just not sure if there is such a thing..
