Too many posts here from guys listening to their hearts instead of their heads!
The Lexus is the way to go. You're young and should be saving every penny you have! That means get the Lexus at a great price. Don't mod it (assuming you could anyway)!
Keep socking away all the money you save until 2010 and the new Mustang comes out. Sell the Lexus and put some of that down and the rest in the bank!
I've always liked the 2 seater Lexus and it's very luxurious and much more affordable than the Mercedes SL500, or 550. It's got all the power gadgets and stuff and a much better service reputation than Ford.
Plus, there are getting to be too many Mustangs out there!

When I was about 33 I went the Acura RL route, at the time that was the very best deal on a luxury class car, and I still own it and enjoy it with my family, it's a fast, smooth ride. If the kind a women you'll be wanting to nail are impressed with numbers, and names, go Lexus.
A few years later I also bought a Mustang GT premium package and modded it as you can see in my signature, and I can't wait to drive it every time I go out. It is unlike any car I've driven or owned. I lived in LA for 22 years, and have been in every kind of fast car out there one time or another. For a coupe that I can still vacation in with my wife and daughter, there is no better deal on the planet. I live in a wealthy area outside of detroit, and my car is faster and more nimble and more fun to drive than anything around here under $125,000.00 that can seat more than two people. Any car close to it in HP (550+ flywheel) is a heavy pig pushing 4000lbs or over.
Plan A, I'd get your Dad's car, as mentioned above, save your money, and plan out a complete mod list, as they become available, for the 2010 model, or even the 2011 model GT, which will be 400hp hopefully. The problem is you'll have to wait years to know the truly quality mods for this model.
Plan B, Buy the 2007 model for a steal, and slowly add mods, since there are so many quality clearance deals currently available for this car, you could SC it and change out the susension, and brakes ect.... for far cheaper with the huge used parts ebay/craig list community ect... way less than I payed. You could fully mod your car with some shopping for 1/3 of what I did, probably $7,000.00
$23,000 for a 1000 mile car, which slowly for another $7,000.00 can be perfected, is even a poor mans dream. Erik

Threads like this annoy me.
Get the vehicle that you want, not the one that others want you to get!
BTW, you're on a MUSTANG FORUM... what do you think the answers are going to be?
