Default RE: Diablosport 87 octane tune questions..

ORIGINAL: apex18

Well i live in a small town, we only have 87 and 91 octane. 91 octane is about 13 cents more per liter, so about 50 cents more a gallon. I'm not paying 5.80 a gallon for gas, 5.30 is enough already (Stupid Canada). So i'm pretty set on 87 as it would be about 7-8 bucks more each fill. So to me its not worth the extra 5HP or what i would get. I don't even think i will get a custom tune, the standard K&N diablo tune must be pretty decent already, as long asthey workgood together i think i will be happy. I'm hoping for 15HP with the CAI and 87 tune, and maybe better gas milege .
The tune should not run lean, if anything it will be a bit conservative. However, a CAI without a tune could possibly cause the car to run lean.

The SCT Strategy Flash device has tunes on it for several popular intakes, five I think. I've had one for a couple of years. (It's the same as an XCAL2, but comes loaded with tunes, XCAL3 and LiveLoad may have the same function, check with SCT at www.sctflash.com).

Anyway, I'm beling lazy, so I didn't check, but I know for certain that one of them is the K&N. You just pick off one of the pull down menus when you're loading the tune. I'm not sure if the Diablo has this feature. If it does, then please, post back immediately, I'd love to hear about it.

I'd carefully open the Diablo and see if it supports your K&N intake. If it has a feature that allows you to select your intake, then post back and let us know. If it doesn't then I'd promptly return it for an SCT product with tunes from the company or from one of the popular internet tuners.

You won't gain all that much from an 87 octane tune, better to load the 91 octane tune if that's all they sell in your area. Most people find the gas mileage increase just about pays for the difference in cost.

From what i have read it supports the K&N CAI, which is good because i don't feel liek spending exta $$$$ on custom tunes. I get the tuner in about a week, i bought it used but got a great deal on it. The the cold air intake i will get about a week after that. But when i get it all installed ill let everyone know how it works and if i feel a big difference. Thanks. Jordan

If you do want to use the canned predator tune with the K&N option, you will need to adjust your global spark by -4 or -5 degrees. The CAI/tune options on the predator are designed for 91 octane. As far as tq/hp gain with those options, you are looking at 15 hp and about 20 tq.

Well the predator has 3 settings, 87, 91 and 91 octane tunes. So the K&N tune must be designed for all 3 ocatne settings? @hy would it just be designed for 91..

The 87 tune made no difference that i could feel, The 91 tune really wasn't that good from diablo. I didn't feel a respectable power boost until i got it dyno tuned, if your not able to get a dyno tune, get one from bama. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

It does have 87, 91, 93 but those are options w/o a CAI. It also has a list of tunes for different CAIs. Those tunes are desinged to run on 91 octane.

I dyoned the car with the 87 tune from diablo and I gained about 7 hp and 15 lbs of tq. I have not dynoed my car at that shop since I installed bama's 89 tq tune. The car does feel faster with the 89 tq tune then with the 87 diablo tune.

Run the Diablosport canned tune for a few weeks. You'll feel a difference. Then spend the $50 on a Bamachips tune ( I recommend a Race tune, but if you're concerned about gas prices a 87 torque tune will suffice ). The difference is amazing.

I went from the 91 octane Diablosport tune to a 91 octane Bamachips race tune. The difference between the two was about as much as when I first loaded the Diablosport tune.
