Default thumping noise under hard acceleration

when I really get on the car from a dead stop I get this really loud thumping noise that comes from what sounds like right under the driver side footwell and I can actually feel a rapid thump. only happens one in awhile but when it does it's pretty scary. anybody else ever have this problem or have any ideas of what it could be?
thanks.

Check the driveshaft carrier bearing.

anyone have any idea how to check the carrier bearing in the drive shaft to see if it's bad or is this something the dealer has to do?

Get under the car and lift up on the driveshaft in the area of the carrier, try to move it around, it should have a slight play from the give of the rubber mounts, but should not be loose. Also look for broken rubber mounts which are common on worn out carriers.

Just a thought I had a problem that sounded just like this right after I purchased my 05 new. The bearing support is adjustable/slotted and in my case it was not equal in that it had been bolted in wrong. I backed off the bolts and adjusted the clearance to be the same and never had the problem again.

Gawd, ya would think that a new car would be bolted together correctly[:@]. Good response, now I will have to look at mine !
I had a new clutch put in mine at 300 miles, I felt it the first time I drove it, they burned it loading it on the truckwhile shipping. The thing would chatter so bad starting out it felt like the car was coming apart.
