Supercharger differences
What is the difference between the superchargers that replace the plenum, like the Roush, Saleen and Whipple:
and those that do not, like the Vortechand Paxton:
Will they all make the same power? Any advantage of one design over the other?
One thing I can tell is that the Vortech-type supercharger looks like it would fit under the stock hood allowing a more sleeper look whereas the Saleen-type requires a taller hood.
Thanks,
Martin

RE: Supercharger differences
the saleen and whipple are twin screws, which give more instant torque
the centris like vortech and paxton build boost w/ higher rpms
all the SC made for the s197's fit under the stock hood

RE: Supercharger differences
Roots and screw blowers produce nearly instantaneous boost, and achieve maximum boost very early in the rpm range. Downside is that it's difficult to put that power to the ground.
Centrifugals (i.e. Paxton, ATI, etc.) build boost slower, and achieve max boost further up in the rpm range. Picture a belt-driven turbo (perhaps a poor analogy, but you get the point).
Both have their advantages and disadvantages - depends on what you are looking for. Having come from the Lightning world, I am partial to the instant power of positive displacement blowers.
