Default TSB 06-09-09

i took my car in this morning for the fuel pump TSB, related to the 05-06 fuel pump.

after cruising for a few minutes, get on the gas to pass a car or something, the car cuts out for a second before coming back to life, sometimes has a back fire.

the tsb is to replace the fuel pump.

i took my car to BRANDON ford this morning, 9am appointment. show the guy the TSB i got off line. he tells me it may take all day to fix the problem, i tell him i could wait a few hours and that why i made the appointment. he says they will get it in first thing to try and have me out with 2 hours. i wait for 15 minutes in the waiting room, he calls for me and explains the TSB is for 05-06 only, i have an 07. I explain to him that the TSB discribes exactly what is going on with the car. He says that he would still have to have a tech ride in my car with the computer and get it to do the same thing it was doing to me. he said they would need my car for the weekend maybe and put me in a rental. i said can you just replace the pump and ill let you know if that fixes it, pump cant be more than $200, how much are you going to pay a guy to ride around in my car? he said they could not do that. so im pretty pissed at this point, he even told me it could be my tuner and if it was he would get me a price to fix it,lol. i explained i had my tuner for only a month, its been doing it since i got the car.i had to take 2 hours off work just to take it to them, id be better off just buying a new pump and doing it my self.

anyone delt with this.

Not sure if it would have mattered or not, but I always take my car over to Heritage Ford in Wesley Chapel (about a 20-25 minute drive up I-75 from Brandon Ford). Talk to Carl, he treats me really well. Hope it works out for you. I'm surprised he didn't say it was your punisher emblems and give you a price to fix that too!

while i totally believe you, i also understand where the dealership is coming from. the dealership has ford telling them it's fixed and you saying it is not. well, ford is the one that would be paying for the work...

i've got an 06 and i think i have the fuel pump problem but it is so rare that i've never bothered to take it in.

they'd have to put hundreds of miles on my car (or yours) to replicate the issue.

i think you are screwed.

just get a whipple with gt500 pumps Honestly.. how big of a deal is this? does it happen everytime? if so then it should be no problem to replicate. heck offer to drive him and show him the problem. If this is only once in awhile thing and not easily replicatedand itdoesn't mess anything up why are you sweating the small stuff? If your warranty is close to being up and they can't prove your tuner didn't cause the problem then you should be all over this ASAP.. otherwise I'd just wait and see if an 07 TSB comes out so that the dealership can justify the expense to ford.

Typical Ford way of dealing with things. The F150's were burning down all over the country because of a defective brake pressure switch, and all of us Lightning guys knew it was the same part number being used on our trucks - but Ford refused to replace them. After 3 years, Ford finally issued a recall a mere 2 months ago.

In their eyes, it's cheaper to settle lawsuits than to recall thousands of cars.

You call the car hesitating and backfiring small stuff? Wouldn't be small stuff if it hesitated while he's trying to pull out on a busy road or something.

1) makes me look like an idiot when my wife says "whats wrong with your car?"-oh you mean the new 2007 mustang i paid lots of money for with only 6k miles on it,that car?

2) its dangerous, pulling out in the opposite lane to pass someone and the car sputters, not exactly what i was wanting from my mustang GT, i would have bought a kia if i wanted that kind of performance

3) i plan to go turbo in the next 2 months, i wont need a fuel pump upgrade unless i cant get the stock one to work correctly, so i would rather ford fix thier problem than me have to spend my money, buti guess i will spend my money anyway, cause i dont trust them

4) no fuel at 5 psi of boost and im sure the pistons wont like that too much

5) the problem is rare, only happened about 5 times in 6k miles, but it may only take one time underboost to mess stuff up.

looks like my best option will be to upgrade pumps, more money to spend- or go to another dealer. i dont trusta tech riding around in my car to find the issue, that what i explained to the service guy, he could ride around for hours and it not do the same thing.

I had the dealer perform this TSB yesterday. They had to wait a day to get the fuel pump up from Denver as they didn't have one in stock.

I haven't tested it yet since I don't drive the car on the highway very often.
