i think you should get LT's.
i was also considering shorties, but the installer talked me out of it saying the LT's are better.
and he was right.

I just ordered a se of Ford Racing ceramic coated shorties today, $459from Jegs. I considered many brands, but in the end, they'll all perform the same, why not get the ones that you know you won't have any install problems with, by Ford. I also ordered a Magnaflow true X with CATs, for $449, which will dump into my already installed 3" CAT back Magnaflow to Magnapacks.

the headers will bolt up to the mid pipe
i got my BBK ceramic LT's and BBK o/r x pipe from jegs for a total of $750
there are better quality headers like ARH, Kooks, Stainless works, but my BBK's are holding up just fine.

If you want performance gains get LT's. The reason shorties on our cars give little to no gan is because the factory manifolds flow very well, either way a tune is the only way to see the gains.

I'd search if the function were working, but is it possible to use high flow cats with longtubes? I heard that it is possible, but requires custom work. Any way to achieve this with bolt ons?

lots of the long tubes have options with or without cats
