2008 GT

I got a 2000 V6 with over 115,000 miles. I'm seriously thinking about getting a GT around Columbus Day, because that's when the biggest sales come out. I'll take a 2008, since it will be cheaper than the '09's. I know gas would probably be a little more, but I can handle it. Do you guys have any pointers for me? I would really appreciate your help.

What kind of pointers are you looking for? Definately buying a left over 08 is the way to go if you want to save money. I bought a left over 06 in feb of last year and paid less than anyone ive ever spoken to with a GT.

Also, Auto's can be just as fast as a stick, but will need a CAI/tune combo... i say this bc there was a big difference in those 94-04 stangs with 5 spd compared to auto.

I would also advise NOT to get the shaker 1000 if u plan on doing any customization. I have the shaker 1000, its very good, and sufficient to me as I am not really an audio buff. Same goes for the wheels.... buy the car without optioned up wheels- lets face it, you're gonna change them anyway.

Well the transmission definitely piques my interest. I really want a manual, but I drive in city conditions, so it would be a big pain in the ass, but you only live once right? And as for the system, yeah I'd probably get an aftermarket one or just take the one out of my Mustang now. Also, do the 2008's have the same lug pattern as the 2000's? As you can see in my sig pic, I got a pair of 17" Cobra R rims. If I can save them and put them on a GT, that would be great. The convertible I don't care about, and I can go without leather. I mainly want the GT's power and looks, plus a spoiler. Everything else really doesn't matter.

BTW, what part of NY are you from? I see your license plate in that pic and the New York on top. Just wondering.

^ I live in Howard Beach (Queens), Not too far from you in Staten Island.

As far as your cobra wheels go,the offset from 94-04 compared to 05+ is not the same, and the wheels will not look right on an S197, although they will fit the lug pattern.

I opted for the automatic when I was looking because of the city traffic. Sometimes I wish I had a manual.... but I currently daily drive the stang, so I'm happy. The Auto with the intake and tune + 3.73's is a blast to drive regardless. If it was a weekend car, I woulda got a manual bc of fun factor.

I'm going to be looking into an 08 GT with a manual. I just can't stand the auto anymore, even after a good tune. It's also a DD too. Get the manual. Real mustangs have manuals.:D Plus you'll get better MPG and a lot more HP to the real wheels.

Manual.

Yup.

Not so fast. My auto is up to 28 mpg everyday on a 70 miles round trip commute with my 3.31 gears. On a DD with gas prices, come on.................

Don't get the shaker. It's a horrible system from an audiophile standpoint. Rockford fosgate got bought out a while ago by lightning audio as did many of the other stereo companies. DEFINITELY not worth the cost they charge for the upgrade.

When I was car shopping in late August of '07, I ended up with my '08 Mustang. The selection of '07's was pretty slim, mostly V6's with autos. There weren't any GT's. I wanted a manual and haven't regretted it at all, even when commuting. It's just more fun to drive and I enjoy driving a lot more than I used to. You steer an auto but you DRIVE a manual.

Just some food for thought.

I think the shaker 1000 is perfectly tuned. I have had custom systems in all of my 4 previous cars and never had a system so balanced like the shaker 1k.
