Should I buy a 2008 GT Premium Shelby?

I would not get a Shelby unless I were going to put it in storage as an investment. Get a GT and do the modding yourself and skip out on paying for the Shelby name.

I'm not worried about modding mySGT (hell, I bought it withan intent to mod it). Granted, I got a smokin deal, but those deals are still out there, just have to look around for them and not buy from the first dealer that's asking $40K.I would not spend $40K for a SGT, but for whatI did spend,it was a WAY better deal than picking up a GT and modding it from scratch. Because of that, I was able to "pass go" and dive right onto somemore "intense"mods.

Bottom line is, the SGT is only going to sell for what the market willbare, and Iknow for a factthat they're not flying offlots at $40K.Make an offer of $35.5K and walk away. Do that at a few dealerships and I guarantee one of them will call you back within a matter of days to accept your offer.

It's not so crazy when you start to add it up.
$2k for a GOOD set of wheels and tires
$5-6k for a supercharger
$1k CAI, tune, etc
$4k painted body kit
$1k interior bits (possibly including some custom leather work)
$1k other exterior stuff such as grille, badges, etc

If I do $15k worth of mods to a car, I hope someone puts me in the insane asylum.

IMO the shelby 350 is a lowered gt ,they jack the price up 15-20 grandadd a bunch of plastic junk to it, and come up with 40 grand. Rip off!
Get a new 08 GT and mod it up!!
Plus i heard that the shelby gt's computer is locked so u cant do any mods to them such as a tune!!
Might be a rumor u might wanna look into if u plan on buying one!!

I decided to get a new 2008 GT Premium Convertible California Special with a functional hood scoop for 35k. After the research I did I really wanted a GT500, but with them selling so high above the MSRP and not really trusting the handful of used scattered through the country in the 45 - 50 k range; I figuredI would wait a little while and see if I want one in a couple years; by that time a challenger might be the way to go (please dont flame me).
Thanks for everyone's advice, I am glad I did not settle for a Shelby GT.
