SC or Build Motor

SC or Build Motor
This recently crossed my mind. I am looking to purchase and install a supercharger. I've narrowed it down to two options Saleen or Whipple. Which ever I decide, I knowboth of these options are very good products. I can't go wrong! Each will set me back approximately$6000.00 with install and dyno tuning.I then thought of building an engine with a cam, heads, forged rods, and crankect. capableof makingapproximately 400HP easy. I believe Icould do this for approximately $4500-5500.00.This would give me more options down the road. Simply because you could just never getenoughHP. Has anyone else ever done this?

400rwhp easy? Not really. JDM's stroker is pulling 375rwhp with some serious mods and money invested. With just a Saleen/Whipple and an 8psi tune you can make 430rwhp easy and probably never run into reliability problems.
Also, a built motor costs a lot............mine cost 2x what the supercharger did.

A blower is the easiest way to make good power. Building an N/A motor to make similar power isn't only going to be expensive but you'll end up with a cammy, rough idling fire breather which will go like stink but be unhappy in traffic and which will overheat as soon as you reverse out the garage.
So long as you don't go bananas with the boost levels you should get a lot of mileage from an otherwise stock motor. It is however wise to keep some money laying around for a rebuild because one day it'll be required

I agree. Order the Saleen SC with the new intercooler, 39lb injectors, JDM's cold air kit, start out with their 8lb tune, belt and pulley, at 17 timing, with the gapped spark plugs, and you should be making 420-425rwhp ( 485 flywheel ) on the Warm weather street race tune. Mine ran beautifully like stock, and had great power all the way through. Then if you want, do the dual fuel pumps, larger intake tube (or new Saleen intake kit) then try 10-12lbs.
I'm now making a tad over 470rwhp with 12lbs, and it runs like stock. Erik
