Default Differential Oil?

I just bought a new T-lok limited slip diff for my 05 v6, to replace the closed one. the dealership wants to cahrge me "around $150" for the oil. I'm new to the whole diff oil thing and i was looking for recomendations for oil weight and brand that would be the best for the buck yet still cheaper that $150. thanks

$150 for diff oil? They better use all of that when they bend you over......

75-140 gear oil w/ limited slip additive. Any synthetic Redline, Lucas, Royal Purple. Only takes liek 3-4pints.

I think.

I filled mine with 3 quarts of castrol..about $10. synthetic should be about $20-$30. does the $150 include labor?

Royal purple with the limited slip already in there. Might want to buy one of those on/off nozzles so you can squeeze it right in there with the bottle horizontal. Fill till you can crook your pinky in and touch fluid. Easy job and the fluid is no where near what they want.

Yep - I got screwed by the dealer on this also. The Motorcraft Synthetic gear oil is absurdly expensive. Go with one of the other brands and tell them to bugger off.

Default RE: Differential Oil?

I just had a new set of gears installed yesterday. This was just the gears, not the whole differential, but my mechanic said it was pretty much the same amount of labor for either. He had labor, plus the kit (bearings, shims, bolts, etc), and then the oil.. He used Royal Purple, 2 qts, and then 5 oz of limited slip additive. The labor was $238, the kit was $96, and the oil was about $20.

So my question is, is that charge only for oil or is it for the whole install kit for the diff AND the oil.. ?

Your dealer is trying to stick it to you. Buy the Royal Purple and take it to them. No way would I pay that just for the oil, synthetic or gold.
