Resolved hood scoop wrinkling stripes problem
For those of you with factory GT hood scoops (and probably other types of add-on hood scoops, like theRoush scoop) who have encountered the problem of the movement of the scoop wrinkling your vinyl stripes that are placed under the scoop.......here is my solution. I had a vinyl expert re-cut my stripes 1/4" from the outside edgeof the scoop. I didn't dare try this myself.......worried about cutting into the clear coat or even deeper! Anyway, I think the result came out really good.....I think it looks somewhat retro...........similar to the way the stripes were placed around the shaker hood scoopson the '69-70 Mach I's.
After marking the outline of the hood scoop with 1/4" pinstriping tape, he had me remove the hood scoop, then he carefully cut through my vinyl stripes, on the outside of this pinstripetape, then heremoved the excess tape that had been under the hood scoop.
I'm attaching a few pics.

RE: Resolved hood scoop wrinkling stripes problem
I asked my body shop manager for a recommendation for someoneto do this and he gave me this person to contact. He charged me $75 to come to my house and do it. He spent at least90 minutes and didn't rush it at all. He was also very careful about my car. He covered his belt buckle with duct tape before he started, so he wouldn't possibly scratch my car. I'm sure you could find someone that would charge less.

RE: Resolved hood scoop wrinkling stripes problem
I had the same problem with my GT after the hood was repainted & the hood scoop mounted. The scoop was digging into the hood screwing up the paint around the edges. The shop had no clue but after reading loads of posts about the scoop & vinyl issue I figured it out. I installed hood pins to hold the hood down, the 05-08's seem to have a problem flapping in the wind even with the stops adjusted correctly. Fixed the problem.

RE: Resolved hood scoop wrinkling stripes problem
I had a similar problem with mine after paint. The hood scoop was digging in and bubble the new paint in one spot.
Turns out, there was no foam tape on the scoop out of the factory. The bottom side of the scoop was bare, and had
embossed markings that said apply tape here... So, they took it off, fixed the paint, and put tape back down on the
scoop during installation. No problems since.
The didn't find any tape when they took the scoop off the first time, so they didn't think it would be needed. But
they made it right!

Looks very good and clean, I can tell he followed the curves of the scoop and all.. very nicely done.. 90min to do that little bit of cutting, WOW he sure did take his time.. Consitration and time will make anything look good..

RE: Resolved hood scoop wrinkling stripes problem
BSM now has stripes that are cut on the outside of the hood scoop. I tried to get Rob to do this when I had trouble with mine but he said there was no problem. Now I guess he has come around to my way of thinking. But he never offered to fix mine. I may have to opt for the new hood stripes that are cut on the outside.
