Default Rattle or Ping???

I have a question about pinging. I have this noise that sounds like a rattle/ping but it only occurs at high rpm-like 5k to 6k when I floor it. My question is if it was pinging wouldn't it do it at low RPMs when I floor it and when the engine is lugging at low rpm? The high rpms are the only times it makes this noise. Also it does not make this noise at high rpm when I rev it in nuetral.

Any opinions would be great, Thanks

Its probably ping if it doesnt make the noise when neutral revving. Probably a little too much spark advance in the 5-6k rpm region.

Possibly more apt to do it when the engine has a load on it vs. not?

i have that 'pinging/metallic' problem at high rpms too. could ethanol (no more than 10%) in the gas cause that to happen?

That could have an effect but not if it happens with every tank. I actually figured out it was spark knock and it was too much timing. I turned down 2 degrees in the 4-8k range and no more rattle. Brents going to redo my tunes for me that way I shouldnt have problems again

i've noticed the rattle more lately and the other day when i got gas, there was a fairly new sign on the pump saying 'no more than 10% ethanol added'. I could see a tune causing this, like your situation, but i don't have my car tuned yet.
