Default dead pedal ¨SOLVED¨

After 2 unsuccessful attempts at my local dealer to fix the dead pedal syndrome my car had been cursed with(we checked and everything is fine sir..) someone told me there was a dealer in a nearby town that had a good ¨MUSTANG¨ mechanic so i went .

He checked it and noticed that the first 1/2 inch of travel on gas pedal was dead, so he
changed the whole pedal assembly and VOILA instant throtle response as soon as i touch the pedal .....

I am very pleased with the results and i truly enjoy my car more.

They will get all my business from now on

Thanks

I've heard of that and recall a thread where someone had a "How to" with pics to D.I.Y. But I don't think it's as common an occurrence as some of the other "bugs" we have.

i believe this is the how-to in case anyone else wants to venture out there.

i haven't done it yet, cuz even though there might be a bit of throttle lag. it's nothing too inconvenient as the ml320. man, that thing, you can mash the throttle to the floor and about a second later it's like "TIME TO GO." i'm sitting there going....i hate this thing.

R3velation...what your referrring to is throttle lag...a tune fixes that. Dead pedal is when you press the gas pedal down...there's no response from the motor for the 1st 1/2 in or so of pedal travel. I resolved mine by just adding a spacer. And this IS very common.

Hey Grampa, where did you put the spacer? Also, what did you use as a spacer?

Its a $5 part made in another country by another manufacturer other than Ford.
Wadda Ya Expect? NASA quality or the US Armys $100 toilet seat syndrome?

A while back when I was out shopping for one of these, I test drove one with the dead pedal issue. The car would jerk alot every time from a stop because I had to push the pedal in alot in order to move. Glad to see you got it fixed. My current 05 doesnt do this. Perhaps it was fixed by the previous owner.

If you look under there, you'll see where the pedal arm makes contact with the housing. Don't laugh..I used a slim piece of metal (I needed about a 1/4 in thick) and zip tied it to the arm. I'm sure you could also JB weld a washer or piece of metal to the arm too. It's been working for about a year.
