Question Need Maintenance Advice

My 2005 has 15,000 miles and is garaged. My 4.10 gears have 500 miles and I had the front end lubed recently. The air cleaner is a year-old cone that looks clean. Clutch giving no problems. Rims and tires are new.

No maintenance has been performed on the car except for synthetic oil change every 6 months. Before I put the car away for the winter, what fluids should be changed or what parts should I be worried about?

Thanks!

I have four mustangs that sit all winter. I can't say I have ever done any maintanence specifically for the winter months as around here they sit for about 5 months. Occasionally we will have a nice 60 degree day in January that I will take them out for a bit to get the fluids circulating. Other than that I just throw a good car cover over them in the garage and start them once a month. Once Spring rolls around I change the oil before driving. As long as you are doing maintaince as needed you should be fine.

Sorry, I posed the question wrong. I've put the car in storage three years running with no issues.

I'm wondering if it is time or mileage that I need to consider. Do I need to change the tranny oil, fuel filter, antifreeze, etc.?

If it has worked so far it should still work fine. It doesn't sound like the cars had too much usuage with only 15k so everything should still be fresh. it's also not anything ancient, the cars only 3yrs old

Other than changing the oil IF you're close to the 6 months, I wouldn't do anything. Make sure the tank is topped off before you put her away.

that must suck to have to put your car up for the winter, I would miss mine so bad. It does keep the miles off of it though, so i guess its a good thing...if I live in the north I guess I would do the same, up there you get salt on the roads, down here we have salt in the air from the beach. keeping a car prestine is hard work no matter where you live I guess...LOL

Only thing other then oil, is the brakes. How are they? Also I have read where you should change your brake fuild every 24,000 miles because of possible water build up. The brake system is sealed and if you never replaced a calibor and no brake lines are linking you should be okay. I have never replaced brake fuild and I have had cars with over 100,000 miles on them. Just an FYI.

Thanks all. I'll be sure to top off the tank and add the gas stabilizer before the first snow.

I may change all the fluids next spring anyway. Not that I want to waste money, but the car is out of warranty and paid for, and I would rather be safe than sorry. How 'bout the spark plugs? Use matter more than age?

The tranny oil doesn't need any change under 30K miles really.
Stabilizer in the tank is a must.

Also, if you don't have the car on blocks, roll the tires so you don't get flat spots.
Some brands are terrible about that...

Another thing I'd do... is to unlatch the convertible top hooks to release the stress in order to make your fabric last longer.
I'd also put dehumidifier packets in the interior and put a car cover.
Battery must be disconnected too.
