Transmission flush?
#5
Do you know if there is a year requirement also, because I have an 05 with 12k on it now that bought a few months ago with 8k on it. My dad was saying change the fuild over the winter and I was wondering why and he said because it's 3 years old. I think this is kind of early to be flushing the trans but could be wrong.

are you planning to do it your self. if you are i know a way to get about 80 percent of the oil changed if you have an automatic with out a flushing machine and paying for the service. Its a little time consuming but its what i learned at UTI for myself. Remember that your torque converter holds a ton of oil and even with a flush you dont get most of it out of the TQ converter. What you do is drain your oil and see how much came out and then replace it with new oil. so lets say 5 quarts. then go out and drive a little bit and then drain it again until you put in the recommended oil the tranny takes if im not right i believe its 12 quarts. so if it takes you three times to put in 12 then thats what you do. In the process you are getting the oil out of the Tq converter and replacing about 80 percent. the flush machines oil change around 4 to 6 quarts. good luck and be sure to get the correct oil due to you can destroy a tranny quickly with the wrong oil

Only problem with doing THESE cars at home by yourself is that you dont have a dipstck to fill the transmission up with. It can only be filled from underneath. I know the drain is underneath as well, but you would need to get a pump that screws on the oil bottle from a parts store that has a tube on it. That tube will slide in the fill hole. You MUST measure what comes out of it since there is no way to check the level. Now, getting a new pan with dipstick is a nice way to upgrade (higher capaciy) and you can then refill it yourself topside, without the hassle.

Im overdue..im at 60,000 miles and i put her up on the hoist lift to change oil and fuel filter and inspect all that was needed and i looked at my transmission and thought DAMN!
The Way its done because their is no dipstick is, Lift her up, Remove the transmission lines from the radiator, Use a Ford Transmission flush/fill pump. and that sucks it out of the tranny and torque converter. To fill, the machine reverses the process. I do all the maintenance on my car but this, im taking to FORD.
Does anyone know what i should expect to pay?
