I'll be heading out to Sheppard AFB in January for 11 weeks, think I'll drive.

Have you tried the two-way radios? They typically have something like a 3-4 mile radius in urban areas. My wife and I have used them and they worked out really well. Or, are you just looking for a reason for a CB?

I moved from Texas to California in May. My car was packed with stuff... every empty nook, cranny, and crevice in the car was filled with something. The trunk was full to capacity. My boyfriend's brother flew down to make the trip with me, and his wife was placed in the backseat... the only space of the car with nothing occupying it.

In any case, the drive took about 22 hours non-stop. We only stopped for restroom breaks and to reload on gas. It was quite interesting for sure. I love California, but I truly do miss Texas...

We might get 2-way radios but I actually own 2 mobile radios that I used back in the day. All I need to do is get 2 magnet antennas to mount to the cars. Not sure which I will use though. I like the CB's for distances and you can also talk to others on the road if you get bored.
