Insurance-Vert vs. Coupe-Big Difference?
ORIGINAL: Boozshey
Damn, I am paying $365 a month on my GT through USAA.
26 years old... Perfect record... But also living in Germany. I can't wait till I get back to the US.

Wow, I cant believe the variance in insurance quotes even from the same co.
Might be because the area i live in has nearly 0 car theft.
I just got a quote from progressive on an 05 GT Coupe and Vert.
Full coverage for me and my wife, 43/37, no tickets, is
458.00 /6 mo or 77.52 /mo.and
479 / 6 mo or 82.19 / mo. for the vert.
Not much diff between the coupe and the vert.

A tip on progressive or any insurance co. for that matter, never opt for the loan/ lease payoff insurance, some call it gap insurance, it is useless.
It only covers the difference in payoff and what they offer you, less all kinds of catches.
Here is their explanation of it:
Limited Loan/Lease Payoff
Limited Loan/Lease Payoff coverage requires Collision coverage and a lienholder. Limited Loan/Lease Payoff coverage protects you if your vehicle sustains a total loss, and will pay you the difference between (1) the actual cash value (ACV) of your vehicle at the time of the loss, less the applicable deductible and the vehicle's salvage value (if retained by the owner or insured), and (2) any greater amount owed on the vehicle at the time of the loss, less any unpaid finance charges, excess mileage or wear and tear charges, any other charges or expenses associated with the loan or lease, and by the vehicle's salvage value (if retained by the owner or insured). However, any payment under this coverage will not exceed 25% of the ACV of the vehicle at the time of the loss.

i'm in one of the highest insurance zip codes-90025- West Los Angeles. I have a 25,000/50,000 policy and with a 2 car discount, LoJack, side airbags, perfect record, age 42, and a big $1000 deductible my insurance for the GT is $494 for 6 months. And the Lojack lowered it quite bit.
I was quoted $292 for 6 months from USAA, and $410 from Nationwide (who currently covers all my vehicles and my house).
Looks like I may be shifting insurance companies.

All this proves one thing.
SHOP FOR INSURANCE after you get your car. I"m currently with American Family (63021), 50 years old, Clean driving record, certified NCRA and NASA Driver. (Yes - I am into driving around in circles!) and I take a drivers safety training course every 10 years, just did my Motorcycle Safety Training the 3rd time, 2 years ago. I have never had an insurance claim. No tickets in 10 years. With all of that - American Family said they won't insure my car, but rather will underwrite it through Century Insurance. I didn't bother asking how much THAT was going to be.
Insurance rates are absolutely crazy! They make millions off of drivers like "us". It tends to make me mad!
Anyway... you will be very surprised at the rate differences between companies. Check your states website, there will be information with ratings on insurance companies in your state - every state has them by law. You will find sometimes that paying just a little more now, can sure save you a LOT of headaches later.

This thread finally reminded me to call and check on what kind of increase I will see.
Going from 95 T-bird V8, Alarm, Air bags. To mustang GT Coupe Alarm/Airbags
State Farm = 429/6 months To the Stang at 680/6 months.
Thats a nice jump, but also 10 year newer car, and nearly 100 more horsepower. What can you expect.
30 Unmarried Male. Must be 25+ to be insured to drive on my policy.
