Default very small paint chip

Hey guys:

Well, I knew it was gonna happen eventually and it finally did. At about 4000 miles on my GT, i now have a small paint chip on the hood of the car about the size of the tip of a pencil. I'm thinking about having my local shop repair just because its so visible being on the hood. Your guys thoughts on what to look out for, request, etc. Thanks guys!

i'd touch it up yourself before spending the money at a shop because it's just gonna happen again. if done right, you can get it looking good. just get used to it if it's your daily driver.

ive got 62,000 miles on my baby and there are a few chips in the hood and one in the corner of the wheel arch. Im going to touch them up but my old bumper was so pitted i couldnt bare to keep it so i got a GT takeoff one.

as for touching it up. Clean the area and dab the touch up stick to build up the surface. Then once its a little bit above the surface, get some wax paper (its like sand paper but with a waxy finish and rub the area to smooth it off. then a small coat of Meguiars scratch X and a wax, and she should look like new!

(Because the shop is just going to use a touch up stick anyways)

Just pick up the matching touchup paint and do it yourself. Cover the paint with some clearcoat and after it dries buff it out. You'll be surprised how well you can do it yourself if your careful.

My car has so many of those and its got almost 16K miles on it. If you plan on fixing it, do it yourself because its gonna keep happening. I don't even bother. It bugs me, but it is inevitable. Why try and resist it? Its hard enough just keeping the car clean let alone keeping it in pristine condition. Just think of them as battle scars.

The dealer touch paint comes with a brush and pen cap. Use the pen and fill the chip with paint. Let it dry and get some 800 grit sandpaper, soak it in water and wet sand the spot gently to blend it in. Wipe with a soft cloth and add clearcoat and buff.

Reading my Auto Week Magazine (october 27,2008 edition) There is a ad in here called "Dr. Color Chip" supposedly it leaves no paint blobs. The Site is
www.drcolorchip.com I would like to know if anyone has used this! Auto week being a pretty respectable magazine i wouldn't suspect this to be "crappy" product.
