The cheap auto zone parts (locking gas caps) keep failing on me every once in 3-4 months which results in "check fuel cap" message on the dashboard. I figured it'd be cheaper to just buy a locking fuel door and stick with the factory unlocking cap. The only problem is I can't find the one I want anywhere which is either black or black with a silver ring (to match the rims). I don't want a chrome one because besides GT emblems I don't have anything that looks chrome on the car and it simply wouldn't look right. I found it on ebay, but the only seller that has it has 93 percent positive feedback which is kinda low and on the picture it's flat (not curved at the top) which makes me worry about fitment. Any ideas on where I can get one? Thanks in advance

 

My experience is do not buy a flat one. I did because it was at a good price but no matter what I do I can't get it to fit without a d@mn gap at the top. Silver Horse Racing has nice ones and I think American Muscle does too.

They have a couple, but the black one they got doesn't lock. I already checked out those 2 websites. And about the experience with the flat one-- same thing here brother. When I worked at Auto Zone I came across one in the performance part catalogue and since I was getting a nice discount I thought I'd order it. According to the catalogue it was supposed to fit, but there was no picture of it. It came in-- flat. I thought I'd still try and see if it will fit but it wasn't even close to how it's supposed to be and that's why I'm worried about this ebay seller because even though he might have it listed for 05-08, it might be the same crap I got from AZ

 

I used a locking gas cap I bought on amazon. Stant 10510 Locking Fuel Cap.

I got the stant units as they say they manufacture the oem ones. I have owned it for at least 6months.

The pros are that it does not give me a CEL or anything like that. It also uses the stock ring and does not advertise BP or anything else on it.

THe bad, its dificult to unlock, you need to use both hands sometimes. The key hole seems to be getting a stuck shutter, nothing major as all I have to do is add some graphite to it.

otherwise a good buy and is not as cheep as the autozone units. BTW our cars have the same gas cap as the f150 ( I think its the 04+ f150).

I called them and told them about my experience with the Auto Zone one and they said that as long as I dont install it I can return it so I'm just praying it works. Pictures coming up after (IF) I get it installed

wow! when i went to their website and typed in "black locking fuel door" nothing popped up. then I tried "fuel door" and it gave me a bunch of options, but I didnt see this one on the list. Oh well, their loss, could've been a sale for them
