Default Rear Axle Vent

On the passenger side of the rear axle there is a little vent sitting on top of it, and it has been leaking for a few weeks now. i think it has something to do with burnouts at the track. Can someone tell me why it's doing this? The car has 12k miles and the rear has never been worked on/touched in anyway. I just noticed it not long ago one day and checked on it again, it's still leaking. It's not overfilled because it would have been doing this when I first got the car.

It's a vent for the rear axle. It'snormalunder havey driving where it gets hot to vent a little out and when the fluid is changed. Don't worry about it.

But it sure is annoying.

On road tracks, with the high lateral load and heat, this is a common problem. I know one guy who has rigged up a little catch can to deal with it.

Don't seal it off to prevent it, that's for sure! It's venting for a reason.

And, if you lose quite a bit of fluid, check it once it cools down to make sure it's not low.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I don't see why it would vent from being at the strip but I guess a burnout builds a lot of pressure inside.
