Winter Weight
I should start adding weight by putting back my spare tire and jack in there, lol.
Answering your question, 3 (50 lbs) sand bags should be enough, and have a full tank of gas most of the time. But I think investing in snow tires is the best bet.

I have I believe 2 x 60 pound bags in mine, plus I got some blizzaks installed this weekend and so far it's been fine around town (Billings, MT where we got hit with 6" of snow and sub zero temps the last few days). I'm not sure I want to take it over any mountain passes though...
haha thanks for the advice guys the previous owner put on the worst tires ive prolly ever driven on touringcontinetals prlly got em at walmart or something but would rather save up for the new rims and tires for spring
i put about 300lbs in the trunk of my sons mustang. my dad loads his own shotgun ammo and gets 25lb bags of shot. there about the size of a loaf of bread. nice to use since a few hundred pounds of it doesnt consume your trunk space.
I dont want to take away from all your plans but 200-300 pounds over one axle for an extended period of time will cause sag and shock wear... I advise u guys to keep no more that 100 pounds and a full tank unless the weather gets really bad, then you can add 1-200 more pounds only for the day\ trip etc. also please secure them properly or put a thick piece of 1" ply where the seat folds down.. 3 50 pound sand bags flying toward you at 60 km h if you hit something is a death wish...
Drive safe...
Cheers.
