Default C&L Intake question

How often do you replace your filter? Can you just clean it?

Just clean and re-oil when it looks like it needs it.

I use the Amsoil microfiber synthetic (cone) filters. They cost about $70 each and you just take it off and throw it away after about 30k miles. I've seen a lot of research that shows decreased filtering efficiency every time you clean/reoil a cotton gauze filter. I feel better just swapping mine out every 30k. The cleanliness of the air your engine intakes is pretty important IMO.

I just get a replacement every other year or whatever. A S&B filter is only $35 anyway

There you go, Howard agrees. I cleaned/reoiled a filter once and swore i would never do it again... $35-$70 every year is worth it IMO.

I have the Amsoil EaAU4090 filter. It is cleanable. you can use low pressure 15-20psi compressed air to clean it when dirty or when ever you want. I prefer to use my wife vacuum cleaner.

The only problem with this filter is it is slightly longer than the C&L one which causes it to occasionally rub on the inside fender if the hose clamp allows the inlet tube to twist slightly. This wouldn't be a problem if the filter was .25" shorter

You will need to measure our CAI intake tube's outside diameter or "OD". this along with how much room you have to the firewall (filter length) will give you the dimensions you will need to match with an aftermarket filter.

Itchy - I also use the Amsoil 4090! It's a beautiful blue 9'' long filter that does come into contact lightly with the firewall but I just used a couple layers of double sided tape thats used to secure body panels and such as a buffer between it and the firewall. You can hear that baby sucking air when you hit the throttle.. great filter!

You want to get the largest filter that will fit for the largest filtering surface area.. that way it can get pretty dirty and still work efficiently.
