Default Upgrading to a GT

I really want to upgrade to a 2005+ GT, however I dont know how much its worth it.

I realize it has many upsides but it also has some downsides...

If I get a GT I get worse Gas Mileage (especially with my lead foot), higher insurance, and I'll get a year or more older car than my current one with more miles on it.

My car is clean, 27K Miles, 2007 Mustang. Anyone know what I should get for mine and what I should have to owe towards a USED GT?

It has to be a S197 Model btw.

Also if I wait a year or so how much will GT's be selling for by your guys' estimates? How much will my car go for??

-Thanks

If you wait till the 2010 comes out, I'm sure it'll drive prices of the 2005-2009's down further.

How old are you now?

Good luck Max - you're in the same boat as I am... even though the GT prices have dropped , so has the value of our V6! Go to any dealer and you'll hear, it's going to be "your car plus $10,000" to trade up to a USED GT. From everything I've learned, the gas mileage and insurance difference between V6 & V8 isn't much.. SURE wish I knew that before I bought my sixxer!!!

I've finally just decided to give my V6 to my son next month as his 18th birthday present and buy a GT for myself, because the V6 is worth more to me as a GIFT for my son!

I just got my 05 GT Deluxe with IUP, auto, no shaker, no leather, w/ 3200 miles for $15900 + taxes + tags. Some of the other ones I looked at were asking anywhere from $14000 (Premium, 50k miles) to $17000 (Premium, 30k miles).

I get just about 20mpg on average (combined highway and city driving) on my GT if I don't KILL it.

I don't understand why sixxer owners think that there's such an enormous discrepancy between the V6 and V8. It's not nearly as high as you'd think. The 4.0 is a pretty big V6 which means it uses more gas than you'd expect for a V6. I forget the numbers offhand, but it's negligible when you factor in the speed and fun factor of the V8.

If you wait, and the economy doesn't rebound sharply, you could probably have a used '07-'08 GT for less than $17,000-$18,000.

Those prices are ALREADY a reality - search eBay & you'll find quite a few:

please use kbb.com to see how much your car is worth. We don't know everything about your car, where you live or how much used mustangs go for in your area. You can also check eBay for sold Mustangs and then filter out ones not in your area.

You can also check your local Craig's List, but remember that those are asking prices. KBB will show you the actual prices being paid by dealers and private parties for trade-ins and used cars.
I personally don't advise trading up unless you have the extra cash or the dealer is willing to give you more for your trade-in when you buy a used GT from him.

Can anyone tell me what the difference between getting 300hp by doing stuff to my V6 versus getting 300hp out of a stock GT?

Would the 0-60 times be similar or would the sixxer be faster (isn't it lighter). How about 1/4 mile?

The GT components are stronger and can better handle heavy modding (like the equivalent of what it would take for you to get 260+ rwhp on a 4.0L).

Just go for the GT.
