Default Engine Rebuild

So, I was thinking of grabbing an old 5.0 block from the boneyard and building a beast to put into my stang (hopefully it fits and whatnot) and I was wondering if anyone has done this, knows a good deal about rebuilding engines and/or wouldn't mind helping me out if I had any questions during the process.

Thanks

shouldn't be terribly hard............the 5.0 is actually physically smaller (OHV motors tend to be smaller, because the heads arent so huge) so it should fit with plenty of space....will require some fabrication though. why not put a 408 in? make the most of the space? you could easily put a big block motor in there, hell, the 5.4 in the gt500 is much bigger.

Can it be done yes, but honestly I think it would be cheaper to upgrade to a 4.6 or 5.4.

Or dare I say buy a new GT ot GT-500.

Personally I would look into supercharging or turbo'ing your 6. You could make 350rwhp easy from what I have read.

That is about the best you could hope for from a budget built 302ci motor and would cost alot less in time and money.

Good luck either way though.

Chain, Really? in holland or Muskegon? and to answer everyone's question, personally I think it would be an awesome (and fun!) project for me and I also think I can do a budget build using parts from the junk yard (cleaned up and etc) Not to mention how much it will teach me about engines.

No doubt, but what I am trying to say it can never be cheap. You have to get it to work with your computer, new motor mounts, new trans, custom driveshaft, will want to put an 8.8 in there.

Plus to make over 300rwhp from a junkyard 302 IMO wont be easy unless some of the junked cars have perf parts.

Now I did have a friend where we put a turbo from a diesel pick up on with some redneck engineering and he ran 10's but that was in a lightweight notch, not a heavy S197.

If you decide to go this route, more power too you. You will defineatly learn alot, mostly the wrong way to do things. Trust me I have done plenty of that.

But if increased performance is your goal, I would SC or Turbo the 6 banger. You can make decent power from them. More that enough to embarass GT's and bolt on GT's/

Good Luck.

yeah for sure, I read somewhere that I might be lucky and the T-5 matches the 5.0 (some website advertised a t-5 for the 5.0 so that'd make my life easier) and I might find one of the older 5.0 so I can just throw a beastly carb on there and forgo any computer faux pa's and save myself the trouble and messing up my car for good haha

your v6 already makes 200 and a junkyard 302 is prolly around there too. There was a guy who has an s197 mustang with a 427 in it who was featued in an issue of MM&FF a while back so maybe you could get in touch with him.
