Ditch 'em or kick 'em?
I can't decide! I've been wanting to do a more Boss 302-ish look to my car, featuring a rear blackout panel, a single hood stripe, and maybe rear window louvers. Buttt..... I'm not going to lie to you guys. My car looks darn sexy as it is. I'm just a bit tired of the stripes and the maintenance that they require. Plus I'm tired of every other Mustang around here having them. They also get a bit too much attention from the cops. I have a GT500 spoiler that I ordered from Spoiler Store waiting to go on the car. I don't want to put it on if I'm going to Boss up my car. I'll just wait and put it on when I do that.
Now, I just spent three and a half hours washing and detailing my car. Unfortunately, portions of the stripes, which are Avery A9 vinyl, are a bit spotty and have minor scratches that won't come out. I tried pulling on the corner of the vinyl from behind the trunk to see what it felt like coming off... and it feels like a dried up soft contact lens. It was pretty stuck on there. I tried calling the guy who installed them back in Texas but he did not answer. I wanted to get his take on taking them off. I'm sure it'll be a pretty big project, at least once I get to the hood and have to remove my hood scoop and the windshield washer thingies.
So what do you all think? I just started removing my rocker stripes. I removed the driver side stripes already since they'd been in direct sunlight for a few hours. They came off like butter.
I just need to go back with a little Goo Gone to remove the outline that they left on there.
Basically I'm a woman of change... I don't like to wear the same shoes every week basically. Please advise!

i think they look fine for the time being. but if you're planning to take off the rally's then go for it! and as for the 302 tribute, i think you should go for it.. the majority of people have rally stripes and you'd be a part of the unique minority of boss's. and if you go through with it, make sure to get the side stripes as well!

If your that tired of them I say take them off. There are different stories about how hard it is to get them off. Some have had good luck using a hairdryer or heat gun... not too much heat though. And others have said that the vinyl comes off in little bits and pieces. It could depend on the brand of vinyl used. You should look for a shop in your area that does vinyl auto graphics and see what they say is the easiest way to get them off. Promise them that you will let them put on your Boss stripes when you do them.
Alright well in the hour since I've posted I've gotten off all the stripes from the rear portion of the car... decklid, bumper, etc. and I'm starting on the roof of the car now. It's been easier than I expected... the stripes are not coming off in bits and pieces... they're coming off in entire sections as they were put on the car. There's no leftover residue save for an outline from where the stripes were. But even that is coming off relatively easily. From the looks of it I may not even need Goo Gone. The hard part though is going to be removing the hood scoop, which is bolted on, and the windshield gusher thingies. Anyone have any experience taking those off?

Victoria, I removed mine myself. Here are a couple of pix so you can see what is involved. If you have any questions let me know.
1. Upon opening the hood, you will see four nuts holding the scoop on. Remove these nuts.
2. There are also 6 body clips holding the scoop on… two on either side, as well as two at the back of the scoop, under the heat shield.
Remove the four clips you can see by squeezing them and pushing up. Then remove the two push pins holding the back of the heat shield on, reach under and release the two remaining clips holding the scoop and remove the scoop.

Wingman, you rock. That's so helpful.... thank you for that. Although my scoop is completely attached behind the heat shield... so it seems I'm going to have to remove that first before removing the scoop. I can get those nuts loosened with just a simple wrench, correct? I remember when the guys that striped my car striped it they used an electric tool to get those out... but I'm sure it isn't necessary correct?
