Question New tire size Nitto

Hello All,

Has anyone tried running 255/50ZR17 tires (NITTO) on the 17 OEM inch rims.
If so how do they look. I need a wider tire for the road courses and was thinking of these as they are just a tad shorter the OEM

Thanks

I have Nitto NT450 (in 275/50R17) tires mounted in the back on 17x8" Ford Bullitts. Not a great fan of the tire in terms of traction, but it looks cool. Are you looking to put the 255's in the front or back?

Hello,

Yes my instructor advised me to get wider tires the same size front and rear.
I don't do 1/4 mile racing at all. Maybe in the future but for now just road courses.

Thanks,

For road course (or autocross, class rules permitting) 8" is a little narrow for a 255-width tire. You may get a little more ultimate grip, but expect the turn-in response and general behavior to be a little softer. I'd first suggest 9" or 9.5" wide rims for that size (followed by 8.5" as a hardly worth it 3rd choice here), with the feeling that you'll probably end up thinking about still wider tires and rims.

Then too, it may end up cheaper in the long run to keep your street tires for street duty only and maintain a track setup with even grippier stuff for play time. Worst case and you cord a track tire, you don't have to rush out and buy one of whatever tire is available just so you can get home/get to work/etc.

Thanks for the information Norm,

I have been looking for a good and light track rim set.
Any suggestions for 18" rims and 9.5" wide?
Steeda has a set of Pentar 1's I've been looking at.

Thanks

Normand, from a little further north.

Just saw the new NT05 show up on their website. I already e-mail'd them with my disappointment.

It seems to be practically impossible to find a good tire in the 27.2-28" inflated diameter range. They continue to fail on releasing anything in that size range. The NT450 sucks. It seems like the only market segment these manufacturers want to service are people who like huge blingy 20" rims and lower their car as soon as they get it.

You can get the 5Zigen FN01-RC 18x9.5 rim for around $300 a wheel and they only weigh 20 lbs.
