so would doing away with VCT be a bad thing? maybe im reading this wrong but it looks like you can buy this cam gear to get rid of VCT. have a look see and let me know what you think.
Locking it out hurts low end performance and MPG badly. Only do it for an all out race car and a very aggressive cam setup. It's better to use a limiter if you really do need to modify it.
well the result of no vct is, the valve
opening and closing events always
happen at the same point, relative to
the piston, regardless of what rpm
you might be at.

Yep, this is a major reason if you dont have a track only car not to do it. I have looked into this quite a bit for when i do my cams. Its actually one thing i think they did right for the car for "most" people.
Theres no reason to get rid of vct with the stock cams. Even comp cams retain the vct with their cams because of the benefits. The only reason to lock out the cams would be because the cams your running are too aggressive or your having problems with it and would rather bypass it all together.

Considering I'm still getting 16/24 I wouldn't call 1mpg BADLY. To the OP it depends on your set up as to what you need to use. You can compensate for the said loss through gearing and tuning.
