First off, if you say "best" again I'll personally flog you... Especially since you could have used the search function to find the billion and some threads on this topic.
Our Stangs come from the factory with synthetic blend. ANY name brand synthetic blend or full synthetic along with a decent oil filter (the Motorcraft filter is a good, reasonably priced choice) and changed at the correct frequency will suffice. Neither one provides any "better" protection than the other. Full synthetic allows you to go a little longer than the blend and the blend allows you to go a little longer than straight dino oil.
There are as many opinions on what brand to use as there are days in the year. I use Amsoil full synthetic in the Stang and Mobil1 in my SUV. Mobil1 is an excellent choice for the $$. My oil/filter change frequencies are 8,000-10,000 miles (I barely make 6 months with those frequencies). I've done this on quite a few vehicles that had no problems after 200,000 miles.
Edit:
My general rule of thumb:
3-4,000 miles on dino
5-7500 miles on synthetic blend
8-12000 miles on full synthetic
Racing and other forms of "severe duty" require modifications to any standard maintenance schedule.
