Default Powder Coating Question

I am thinking about getting my Roush wheels powder coated and i've never had anything PCed before. The one place i called quoted me $125 per wheel. Sounds pretty high to me. Is that a fair price? I was thinking more along the lines of $50-$75 a wheel.

That's funny, I emailed a shop around here what a rough estimate would be for a set of wheels the other day and just got the reply a few minutes ago. Here it is:

A rough estimate on a set of wheels depends a little on the wheel and the condition it is in. For steel wheels, we prep with a sandblast, fine prep with glass and then coat with two coats to ensure durability for exterior use and mechanical abrasion with a rate varying from $75 to $125 per wheel. For aluminum wheels, the process is the same with a fine sandblast and pricing from $100 to $150 per wheel.

hmmm, thank for all the input fellows. sounds like got quoted the high end of the price range. My wheels are in like new condition and chrome, its not like they are in poor condition.

Chrome is more too since they really have to beat them in blasting to get the powdercoat to adhere. If they do it wrong the powder coat will flake off once you get a chip.

Also with chrome wheels + powdercoat they are going to get pretty heavy I would think.

As far as price I have look into it a few times and it is between $70-$125 per wheel from my research.

Good Luck.

That's probably why you got quoted a bit high. It will be harder to get the chrome off.
