It really depends on your track. No one ever asked me if I had a drive shaft loop. I have the CHE loop and I wouldn't bother getting the rear loop if you still have the stock shaft.

I've never been asked about a driveshaft loop either, though it is prob best to have one.

I thought that the 2 piece loops were for the stock driveshaft (being the stock driveshaft is 2-piece, one loop for each piece) and the single loop (or front) is for an aftermarket 1 piece driveshaft.

l just put in the BMR loop, and w/ my BBK LT's and o/r x pipe, the loop was touching my x pipe. i had the x pipe tweaked a little so it would fit. i heard of at least 1 other person w/ the same fitment problem w/ the BMR and an x pipe. it is NHRA rules that you have a loop if you run a certain et. here it is out of the NHRA rule book. but sometimes the track may not check, i would check w/ the track in question to be sure.

2:4 DRIVELINE
In place of a crossmember, in the vicinity of the front universal
joint, all RWD cars running 13.99 or quicker with slicks and 11.49
or quicker with street tires must have a retainer loop 360 degrees
of enclosure, 1/4-inch minimum thickness and 2 inches wide, or
7/8-inch x .065-inch welded steel tubing, securely mounted and
located within 6 inches of the front universal joint for support of the
driveshaft in event of U-joint failure. Open drivelines passing any
part of the driver’s body must be completely enclosed in 1/8-inchminimum-
thickness steel plate, securely mounted to the frame or
frame structure.

its a safety precaution. if your u joint or DS breaks, your DS could either come thru the floor of your car and cause damage or injury, or your DS could polevault your car and you dont want that. the DS loop holds it in a safe manner so these things dont happen.

I'd rather have the loop then get turned away during inspection after driving an hour to the track... Even though i ran dr's on my car last year and no one said anything and island. I think i should be fine with just the front loop because most inspection guys may not even notice that there really should be 2. But are the cheapest ones still $100+? Can't find any cheaper. Also i thought the rule was anything 12.99 or faster needs a driveshaft loop.

If your car has F/I they sometimes are more strict at these tracks by me. They inspect my car pretty well, check dates on SFI tags on harnesses, so if you had no loop you could be going home without running at all.
Here is the important thing I can tell you. The loop will save your car from major damage.
I had a front u-joint go at 125 MPH near the traps, on my '67 GTO.
It took out the m-22 trans, bell housing, driveshaft, entire rear end and the trans tunnel was damaged.
It sounded like a 155mm howitzer when it went. I was lucky to get the car stopped with the shiny side up. So the loop is a good insurance policy. You shouldnt whine about spending a hundred bucks because it will likey save you a lot of damage.
