gears makes you think your fast enough to chase that corvette around town. Cams put you a little closer to catching him.

With a lot of cams (at least the ones that make good gains like Comps) you will need gears with them as cams will lose a little low end power to gain more upper end.

I'd say get gears first then cams. That's my plan.

Cams actually gain power, gears only distribute what you already had to different ranges.

wow.. legion5.. I always wonder how you find such arbritary figures.. amazing.. (how arrogant does someone have to be to quote themselves in their sig?)

figure cams can be good to up to 20-30rwhp/tq.. and 4.10s shave off about .3 secs I believe(correct me if i'm wrong) from 1/4 mile time.. so.. pretty close for performance gains. Kind of depends on what he wants and what type of driving he does.

Cams are NOT better on the street if you are under geared (stock gears). If they lose low end to gain high end (and they usually do), it will be annoying (and slower) on the street in traffic until you "gear up." Even if you don't lose any or much down low, the gain is going to be up really high and you'll need to gears to get up there quickly to use the new power.

The truth is, they both go together but if you are going to pick one and the other later, it makes more sense to choose gears first.

No problem. I've deleted my post. Do your own ****ing dyno chart math:

Far be it for me to be called arbitrary when I do math based on engineering, which I mentioned as being my source, to get an exact number, and you're saying "correct me if I'm wrong".
