Default Hood Q/A

Hey gang,

Next up on my list of mods is the Trufiber GT-500 KR-style hood. I've heard a lot of differing opinions on this matter, with few facts in. So I'll toss out what I want to do, and hopefully you guys can help me out.

In the end, I'm wanting to have a complete GT-500 KR tribute, and haven't done much in the way of the major appearance mods to get to it yet. I am wanting to start with the hood, because that's one of the best head-turners, I think.

1. Until I order the basic nose/front end kit for the GT500/KR, will this fit on the stock GT front end? Or should I wait to do the front end kit first?

2. I plan on putting hood pins on, but I want to wait until the new front end is on. Would this be a safety issue? I'm not sure how securely it latches.

3. When I receive a hood in the mail, I know that I'm supposed to inspect it before signing. What exactly am I looking for? Dings, scratches, etcetera? Is it easier to have it mailed to a paint shop and have them look over it? Or do you think they won't care?

Thanks! More as I think of them.

1.) I'm pretty sure that the hood for the KR wont fit on a GT front end, so you need to wait to do your GT500 front end conversion first.
2.) They always say with an aftermarket hood you should get hood pins for added safety, and I think they look sweet as well. There is also a write up someplace on how to install the hood pins, so look there once the front end and hood are on
3.) I would imagine it would be eaiser to have the paint shop order it, but I have NO experiance with this so I cant be of much help to this answer

1. i'm not sure about the kr hood, but i do know that the factory gt500 hood CAN be fitted to the stock fascia, but there's a small gap in the middle...maybe it's the same story with the kr hood because it used the same nose.
2. definitely +1 to the pins. i'm worried about my factory hood when i'm at 90+...all that shaking and what makes me feel somewhat uneasy. (heard some horror stories of this kid with a g35 with an unpinned cf hood that sliced open his roof)
3. i think you're looking for dings, uneven sanding, but i'm not 100% sure. it's early and i think you'll get a couple of bites to figure it all out.

good luck on your front-end conversion. it's on my long list of mods as well.

I will give you this 1 fact that I know... Tru-Fiber hoods are not nearly as nice as some other brands such as Cervinis... how do I know you ask? Well I just had the Tru-Fiber GTS-3 hood installed on my GT and it took almost 17 hours of labor for the body shop to make the hood presentable! It was bowed up on both sides by the fenders, lots and lots of pin holes in the finish, and on top of both Cowl/vents there were soup bowls or bird baths! It was horrible! There was another post somewhere around here about this also... I think Pascal posted some pics of the Tru-Fiber nightnares! Just thought you should know before you made the purchase of the hood! Good luck!

you can do the hood first, but i would do the conversion first. i think the front end conversion is more of a head turner the hood.

Is it the GTS 3 your talking about, or fords actual Shelby KR hood?
The same style of hood is at cruzinconcepts but I don't think it's trufiber so I think the workmanship may be much better

Ok, here are the correct answers to your questions coming from someone who owns that hood.

1. No, the Trufiber Venom hood (which is the GT500 KR hood) will not fit on a GT front end do to the fact that it will not latch and it hits the two upright headlight/grill support spliters. I know this because at my body shop we test fit the hood on my GT frontend.

2. You can put the hood pins in at anytime but depending on where you want to mount them too you may have to have the front bumper cover off so you can get to the mounting locations from the under side.

3. Your looking for shipping damage ect. If you have it shipped to the body shop make damm sure they know to not sign for it until they have looked it over.
