Default High speed flutter!?!!

This was hillarious until I found out why!

Wife tells me she freaked out one day (while using the car) She said to me that the hood fluttered real bad...

So I go outside and check and see if it is latched, and yep. It was. (thinking she was nuts at this time)

Until today....

We were coming home and I told her I wanted to play on a long straight a way, and up the needle she goes!

Somewhere between 120-130 I crapped my pants!!!!! I have flown aircraft before and experienced this on test stalling an aircraft, but in my car!!??!!

HOOD FLUTTER?!!??!! WTF?

LOL

So, what do I need to do to fix this issue?

Also, does anyone know why I would be getting a vertical vibration? The radar detector wont stay still (up and down) when on ANY surface....

any speed above 30 on this one...

Thanks guys!

my hood starts 2 do that once its above 110... the way 2 fix it would be hood pins... they also make a stealth hood pin that latches underneath that u cant see...

You can try and raise the hood bump stops. I had this problem on my fiberglass hood untill I raised them to the point where its a little harder to close the hood, their are 4 of them raise them equally the 2 outside ones and then the 2 inside ones, it should help I have taken mine upto about 120 and it was pretty good it shaked a little bit but not to the point where it scared me. I hope this is what your looking for and it helps.

Zporta nailed it on the head. Our model is notorious for hood shake. I personally am saving up for the stealth hood pins. Pricey but cool because you may eventually get tired of the hood pins and then you have a hole in your hood...

Darkness you have the exact thoughts I just went through. I had a Cervini ram air hood and put hood pins on it. No hood shake but then I got tired of the hood pins and didn't want them anymore. I ended up getting the Techco hood now and it shakes but I will not put hood pins on it this time. I'm thinking about doing those stealth pins myself.

Has anyone used them on a fiberglass hood? I'm curious how well they'll hold or if the pins will just pull right out of the hood.

But anyways, Dblex, raise the rubber stops first and if it doesn't help...consider some sort of hood pins.

Hood shake is a chronic issue with the S197's and there have been a lot of threads on this. Bumper adjustments at about 1/4 turn at a time seems to do the trick. Fortunately (LOL!), you'll have to go do 100-130 MPH runs after each adjustment.

Even after adjustments and some improvement, mine still does it. But I do frequent runs over 100 MPH and have yet, in almost 2 years, have the hood do anything more than shake. I love the idea of REAL hood pins but I need to get over the "drill-in-my-hood-are-you-f**king-nutz???" syndrome.
