I have the factory nav and its not bad but aftermarket is probably alot nicer. The factory nav looks nice and works great but Pioneer and other companies makes really nice units that do more. Look at the Pioneer F90 if you want nav and dvd plus alot more.

05pny, I don't think the factory nav plays DVD's. Its navigation is DVD-based, but it doesn't play DVD's on the screen. Personally, the factory nav is money for what I need it to do...direct me to where I need to be. Aside from that, it's really not all that functional apart from its touch-screen.

If you buy from a dealer or anyone affiliated with Ford, you're probably going to pay an arm and a leg for that unit, and like War Machine said, you'd be better off going aftermarket.

Try searching on ebay or craigslist for a used unit?

A lot of people like Pioneer and Alpine. I really have no idea what's good or not. I don't have plans to switch out my factory head unit anytime soon.

the Pioneer Avic F series seems to be top notch!

On a side note, from what I recall the Ford nav unit costs around $2000. The top of the line Pioneer Avic F90bt model costs around 900 to 1000 from a authorized dealer locally (there is not a single authorized dealer for the Avic F90bt model on the internet because Pioneer won't allow the Premier models to be sold online, but companies do it anyway, and you might be able to find it for around $600

East87 was correct as I forgot to mention that the factory unit doesn not play dvds. It was a $2000 option on my car so I imagine it'll cost around that from Ford. It works great but if you want a backup camera or dvd playback you'll need to go aftermarket.

Like I said in the first post and Murphdog said, the Pioneer F-Series is a top pick for being the best unit. The f700 doesn't play dvd but the f900 and f90 both do. The f90 has better input jacks than the f900 and only costs a little bit more.

One cool thing about them is all the hacks and stuff out for them. Check out avic411.com to see some of the stuff people do with the f-series units.

I've actually been thinking about getting an F90 unit sometime and last time I looked a few weeks ago they were around 550ish on Amazon.

I think the stock ford navi blends in the best with the color scheme. Its also much more flush. I have yet to see an aftermarket that blends in nicely and really eye opening. Until that day comes, Im sticking with the ford one.
