Default gutted mufflers?

just wondering, has anyone tried cutting open their stock gt mufflers and taking the baffling out yet? i am happy with my current exhaust setup, but they are just sitting in my garage begging for me to experiment with them, and i really want to know what it would sound like. i have become decent at welding over the past few months and i want to try this. i was just wondering if anyone has allready done this.

-thanks

Somewhere I saw a picture of the cover cut off the stock mufflers. Looks like a PITA to gut one efficiently... I was considering it, too.

I was going to tear one apart, rip out parts of the internals, and run a pipe from inlet direct to outlet, then weld it back up to look like a normal muffler. Seemed like it was going to be difficult to do, but not impossible.

Keep us posted

I hope you find my comment helpful, but you may not.

I would bet $500 that I have made better sounds on the sh!tter.

But if you want to further your welding skills go for it! I myself want to learn a lot more about welding and that doesn't sound like a bad project to start with.

Especially since take-off mufflers for stangs are abundantly available for sale online for low $$$. It's not like you'd be wasting any cash.

good link dly. i had no idea anyone had put that much effort into research and development on stock mufflers. on top of getting some more stick time with the mig welder, i am curious what it will sound like.

Removing the first section of chambers makes them sound similar to the GTA mufflers.

Removing all the baffling with deflectors or a pipe makes them sound similar to Loudmouths.
