OK, love my kid, he installed my supercharger among a bunch of other wrenching on my Mustang..... but he lost my lug key!

Bought wheels from Cruizinconcepts back in Oct 08, and actually just emailed Mike to see if he can assist, but it is Friday night and it is really bugging me I can't get wheel off.

It looks like a gear end kind off... think circle end with 7 square tooth gears sticking out. If you took to of them, you could roll them together like two gears.... something like the gear picture half way down this page http://reprap.org/bin/view/Main/GearDesignInAoI , but only 7 teeth.

Any ideas? a 3/4 socket seems like it fits close, but as soon as you torque on it it slips. Metric is a no go. Bought a gator grip http://www.endeavortool.com/ , didn't work...

Even if someone would just loan a tool that I would pay shipping on so I can get them off and replace with nonlocking nuts.

 

If the lug nuts aren't hardened, you might be able to get them off with a cold chisel.

Cut into the end of the lug nut off center, but straight on. After you get a deep cut on the end, angle your chisel and keep hitting it until the lug nut starts turning. Once you get it to break loose, it comes off pretty easy.

That's how people(not me) used to steal wheels in my old neighborhood.

The other way is to get a really good socket and hammer it on the end of the lug nut, then use a wrench break it loose. Again, only if the lug nuts aren't good hardened ones.

 

Well, the last way may work, but hate to try and cause enough damage, not get off, and now screwed. I didn't mention the nuts are recessed fairly deep, can't really get to them short of just sliding a socket in...

 

If you use a Craftsman socket and it gets messed up, you can get a free replacement from Sears

I think those may be what you're describing. Best bet may be to order a new set of locks. They aren't expensive. Then, you have extra locks AND if you ever find your original lug key, you'll have two.

 

Those look pretty close and may be it, but again since they are so deep I can only see the very end headon... I thought all were the same size though, not on e a different size. Will have to look again.

 

You need to know the key # There are multiple ones. I ordered a spare as soon as I received my kit.

You can get a twist socket, you hammer it onto the lock, then cross your fingers and you try to turn the lock off. Works really good actually.
A lot of tire shops will have these.

 

Yeah, I know it's bugging you, but have a little patience.

Wait until Saturday and try calling tire shops until you find one that can help you. One of them must have an assortment of keys or a tool that will work without making things worse.

Now you really don't think you are the only one who has found himself without the key, do you? I'm sure shops have to deal with this issue from time to time.

shops have tools to get them off. i left my key at home when i put my roush wheels on and instead of driving 25 minutes back to my place and another 25 back to the shop the guy at the shop took em off and just told me to put them back on when i got home.

Discount tire used those on mine
