Default Racing Fuel?

What fuel can I run safely when I'm at the track, without causing any engine damage? I have a Whipple SC if that matters any?

Thanks

If you're car is tuned for 91, I'd use 91. Don't waste your money on 101 octane pump gas - if your car is not tuned for it, you're wasting your money. There won't be any notable performance gains.

But the higher the octane the less the motor will have to retard the timing when heat soak happens...decreases chance of detonation but again like the above said get a race tune for 100 octane....just the different fuel with help greatly with preventing denotation and even more timing advance and few more ponies at the same psi!

if your motor is not being retarded due to knock, and if you are not having any detonation issues, run the lower octane/correct octane for your motor/tune, save the money you normaly will not see any improvement from running a higher grade of fuel.

Now having said that my tune is for 93, and normaly i run 93, but next weekend at the drags i am planning on runing 1/4 of a tank of 93 and 1/4 of a tank of 101 Super ++ from shell, dont know if it will help at all, but i know it wont hurt any thing.

As everybody said, ul be fine running whatever your motor is tuned to. obviously the higher octane will prevent a pre detonation, but there wouldnt be any need for a 101 Octane

If you had 12 to 1 compression ,a high lift radical cam maybe then it would be required but your engine/heads doesn't have enough time to burn 101 octane. We should be so lucky to run the lower octane fuel with heads that flow and engines that think for themselves.

FYI brenden from brenspeed says running race gas without added power boosters or other additives adds maybe 5 horsepower even WITH a tune.

the engine seems happiest at 93 octane.
