Question Regarding replacement keys
When I bought my 06, it came with one original Ford key, and one aftermarket key. Both start the car. I bought a replacement OEM key so I could have a spare other than mine and my wife's. I got it cut, but cannot program it to start the car. I do know that I can get the stealership to program this key, but my question is this: Can they make this new key so it is a master key (like my 1 OEM key that came with the car), so I have the 2 keys necessary to program any future keys, or am I now at their mercy for the rest of the time I own the car since the original owner never gave up the second key? I guess I don't understand why my current second key (aftermarket) will not suffice as an original key to use for programing a new 3rd key (I found the documentation online and went through the motion of trying to program a new key using the two I got with the car without success).

Not if you get Ford to do it.
When I bought my Mustang, they only gave me one key too, until I said something to the service Manager. She is a good friend and saw to it that I got another one free of charge.
Now my daughter's Focus only came with one key. I bought another one from Ford but didn't have them program it. It will unlock and roll down the windows but not start the car. I was told that a local mobil Locksmith could program it even though we only had one working key. This is something I do need to get done soon!
