Default question about cats

Ok this has probally been asked a few times but ill ask again. I am thinking of buying the Pypes O/R H pipe. So here is my question can i just cut out my cats and get pipe welded in place. Wont this be basically the same thing? I have a tune with the rear sensors turned off so im not worried about that. Is there a big difference between what im talking about? Thanks

Not an expert here, but I am pretty it would be possible. The question is, what are your smog requirements? Does your state check for cats. Here in Cali, exhaust/muffler shops every exhaust/muffler shop wouldn't even put hi-flows on my O/R prochamber. I had to go to a shop that specializes in mustangs, but also works on other cars.

No state emisions here so im clear on that part. I just dont want to spend over 100 for a pipe that i can cut out and have pipe welded in and have basically the same thing.

It will basically be the same thing, and it has been done before.
The only problem is that you won't have the ability to go back to stock.

So their is no gain by buying the o/r compared to cutting out the cats. Thats what i wanted to know. Thanks! I dont think ill be going back to stock any time soon anyway. And my little sister wants to buy the car when/if i move onto something else. Thanks for all the input guys!

if you are going to do it yourself then it might be worth saving an extra couple bucks, but as said before, you wont be able to go back to stock. if you are going to pay a shop to do it then you will probably be better off just buying the pypes h-pipe. i thought of that before i got my midpipe and got told it would be about $90 to take out all 4 cats and weld pipe in where they were. so i just spent the extra $30 and got a whole new pipe.

what you need to do is take the cats off and hammer out all the stuff inside of them, that way, from the outside it looks like you are legit

idk about your shop, but i kept the cats and still have them
so i have the ability to put them back on if wanted
all they have to do is cut again and weld the cats back in.....
correct me if im wrong....

ps
im going to try to get a sound for you
i have muffler deletes though so it might really loud for you
also if i sell my cats they will almost give me back what i paid for the custom weld...
