Default Engine Weight?

Hey everyone, just curious how much our engine weighs, with the pistons heads....etc). I am going to do an engine swap and I was going to buy a hoist and didn't know how high of a weigh capacity to buy. thanks

Without accessories, like a long block with intake, I'd say in the neighborhood of 450lbs.
Just about any hoist will take care of that.

Remember, the further you deploy the hoist arm, the less weight you can stress it with...

cool I'll keep that in mind Just got a new job and I'm making boku bucks. So I'll finally be able to buy a new-to-me engine and install it myself.

Wait a minute...
Are you talking about a V6 or V8?
I just realize you have a sixxer, whitch is a bit lighter.
Doesn't matter, a conventional hoist will do.

well I was referring to the V8 since if something will hold the 8 then it will hold the 6 lol. Yeah I'm going to buy a V8 to put in there.

Yeah I want to do a 5.4, but the cheap ones are the older models so I would have to buy new parts to make it work. I found a 4.6 for like $1250 and it's about an hour drive from my house so.... I'm going to buy that lol. I will post a thread once I get the ball rolling w/ pics and progress rpts

Man thats going to be a fun project. The weights on the 4.6 and 5.4 I assume are for aluminum blocks? The standard 5.4 is much more heavier than the standard 4.6.
